23:29
Welcome Brendon!
Henry Mangum
23:40
if i am currently taking dual enrollment is this applicable for me to attend?
Cristin Caparotta
24:09
Henry - Yes! Especially if you are looking to take multiple in the next two years.
Deirdre Magro
24:14
Yes - especially since you will be a junior next year - and there will be a larger variety of DE courses open to you.
Deirdre Magro
24:35
Welcome SDV 100 students! It’s great to see you here!
Michelle Buehlmann
27:12
As an NVCC teacher I can say we love our dual enroll kids!
Deirdre Magro
27:27
So nice to know! Thanks, Michelle!
Mila Cohrssen
34:55
What is the DE placement test and how do you take it?
Deirdre Magro
35:36
@Mila - Ms. Nearman will cover this in a few minutes. Great question!
Maya Sherlick
35:36
If you are going to collage in a different sate or country does it transfer to most schools?
Hildie Block
35:45
my kid is in 3 De classes right now, do I need to be here?
Deirdre Magro
36:39
@Maya - It depends. It’s never too early to check in with some of the schools that interest you. Many general education courses tend to transfer well (ex: ENG 111).
Humes family
36:58
can you send this powerpoint out to attendees after the session?
Frank DeRocco
37:33
Yes, I certainly will be sending this out to all of our ACC families.
Gaya Dowling
38:02
Did Ms. Nearman say that DE classes come with the GPA point bump?
Cristin Caparotta
38:03
@Hildie Yes we would recommend it for any prospective or current student. After this overview, we will be hearing from DE teachers and students that we think will be very helpful as students prepare to make course selection for next year this week.
Cristin Caparotta
38:28
@Gaya Yes, AP and DE classes both get the extra quality point in the APS GPA.
Deirdre Magro
38:34
@Gaya - yes.
Gaya Dowling
38:38
Thanks
Gaya Dowling
39:20
Since 10th graders couldn't take the PSAT this year, will eligibility be based on GPA for next year?
Deirdre Magro
39:47
Ms. Nearman will cover this in a few minutes; great question!
Annie Harold
42:11
Where can we find a list of contract classes taught at APS?
Ana Caballero-Torres
44:01
@Annie, the program of studies online has all the courses available at APS. Please be mindful that course offerings are contingent on course selection and teacher availability.
Cristin Caparotta
44:33
Here is the APS program of studies for 2021-2022: https://www.apsva.us/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/HS-PROGRAM-OF-STUDIES-2021-22.pdf
Henry Mangum
45:44
if you have an associates through DE are you still considered a freshmen for housing, counseling and scholarships?
Deirdre Magro
46:26
Great question, Henry! In most cases, yes. The schools like to form a community of new freshmen.
Gaya Dowling
50:27
Will the recording of this session be posted somewhere?
Deirdre Magro
51:34
Yes. I believe that Mr. Villafane will post it.
Frank DeRocco
52:11
@GDowling. Once we have the recording we will send it out via email and will be posting instructions on where to access it on ACC’s website
Gaya Dowling
52:19
Great. Thanks.
Aidan Basloe
53:22
If you don't come back March 16th I heard you cant get your DE college credits, is this true?
Deirdre Magro
53:53
@Aidan - this is only the case for students taking Auto Tech and EMS 120 (hands-on part of EMT).
Aidan Basloe

57:07

Maya Sherlick
01:02:38
How does DE English 11 prepare you for DE English 12? And how do we prepare to DE English 11?
Deirdre Magro
01:03:30
DE ENG 111 focuses a lot on the writing skills that you will need in DE Lit - and in MANY other college courses.
Antares Leask
01:03:44
DE English 11 is Composition (NOVA 111/112) — so a lot of writing and rhetorical analysis. DE English 12 is Literature (NOVA ENG 255/245) so more reading and using those skills to analyze specific texts. :-)
Maya Sherlick
01:04:35
Ok! Is there anything I can do to prepare for the DE English class?
Maya Sherlick
01:04:53
11th grade*
Cristin Caparotta
01:05:31
@Maya - love the excitement! be sure to let your English 10 teacher know that you are interested in DE so that she can support you and your writing skill development for the rest of the year
Maya Sherlick
01:05:57
Sounds good!
Antares Leask
01:06:01
Dr. Van Lare does a great job preparing students when we have a full school year! :-)

01:11:45
Is there a maximum # of DE credits students can take, either per year or total?
Humes family
01:12:20
or a maximum # of credits that transfer to other VA schools?
Stacy Lapidus
01:12:37
Can you explain how it's determined whether a rising sophomore qualifies for a dual enrollment class?
Michelle Seo
01:13:25
Can you clarify how we seek exemption for sophomores? The slide mentioned a Sophomore Exception Packet. Where do we get that?
Amy Nearman
01:13:25
A full college load is 15 credits. The max college load is 18 credits per semester
Humes family
01:13:45
Thank you!
Jack Ploetz
01:16:21

Maxwell Julius
01:16:41
no
Carole French
01:16:50
Yes they can
Maxwell Julius
01:16:59
They don’t, it depends on the chool
Ana Caballero-Torres
01:17:01
Are students able to drop DE courses if its not a good fit for them?
Deirdre Magro
01:17:17
Many do - but it’s never too early to reach out to some of your schools of choice to check on their policies. General education courses like ENG 111 usually transfer well.
Maxwell Julius
01:17:31
@Ana - yes
Heather Atkins
01:18:25
other than math, are there any DE for 10th graders?
Deirdre Magro
01:19:14

Maya Sherlick
01:19:20
I am taking DE Web design 1 and 2!
Michelle Seo
01:19:30
