Hi Martin, I usually randomly assign the first groups in the semester, and then after watching them for a couple of weeks, I then re-assign the groups, making sure I put personalities together that have a good chance to work (don't put someone really shy with someone incredibly outgoing, who will stifle the shy person excessively, etc...). I change groups every couple of weeks to keep the students on their toes so they don't get complacent with the same partners.
